Basic Scanning Tips

Use this information to assist you when scanning from a newspaper or magazine.

The following instructions are designed to assist students with the scanning and enhancement of images from newspapers and magazines in the PCSS Communications Lab

1.) REQUEST SCANNER - The scanners are on a small cart with wheels and available upon request.

2.) SCANER OPERATION - Plug in power and then USB cable.

3.) PLACE IMAGE - Place original image on scanner.
       Place a sheet of black construction paper behind original image.

4.) SCAN SETTINGS - Select resolution, options, file name etc.        (200+ dpi for print AND Remove Patterns)

Sample ... NO BLACK BACKING PAPER. You can see the text and images on the back side of the paper.

Sample ... WITH BLACK BACKING PAPER. Now you just need to remove a few imperfections (folds, wrinkles and cut marks).

5.) EDITING in Fireworks MX - Rubber Stamp tool to remove defects and smooth colours.
      

6.) EDITING in Fireworks MX - Additional brightness and contrast adjustments.
